History

Helping Hand Landscape Design has been designing landscapes for discerning clients for nearly 40 years, and continues to grace finer homes throughout the Bay Area. Encompassing a broad reach from its East Bay office and surrounding communities such as Blackhawk and Ruby Hill, through Silicon Valley and the Peninsula up to the North Bay: HHLD helps homeowners envision their dream, then creates a plan to make it a reality.

Bob Luehrs began a landscape contracting business starting in 1976. With an eye for what worked functionally and esthetically in a client’s landscape, Bob found himself becoming increasingly involved in not only installing landscapes, but assisting clients in all aspects of their design.

What began as simply giving clients a “helping hand” by improving their landscapes consumed so much of Bob’s time that he transitioned to exclusively performing design work. Officially becoming Helping Hand Landscape Design as of 1986, Bob’s daughter Jennifer Smith has been an integral part of HHLD for most of that time. Since interning during her high school years, Jennifer not only performs design and AutoCAD work but also oversees business management and administrative tasks.
